Yugoslavia Site Make this site more interesting!

A brief introduction

I left a dull but well-paid job in the UK to go to Belgrade, Serbia. I originally came just for a single year, but somehow never made it back to the UK. I was working for a Christian organisation called EUS, which supports Christian students at universities. In order to keep in touch with friends in Britain that I might not have time to regularly update with what I'm doing, I have written this web site. The job I was doing for the first two years was mainly involved with setting up a web site for the Christian Union movement in Yugoslavia, but also involved training Yugoslav students in computer and internet skills, teaching English language, summer camps around Serbia and Montenegro, doing brochures and also spiritually supporting Christian students. This means that I was giving advice and counselling, and practical help organising prayer groups and EUS student meetings.

I have been interested in Yugoslavia since the first time I visited it in 1997, helping distribute food packages to refugees of the civil war. As a result of contacts made during the three visits I made over the intervening years to the northern Vojvodina province, I was asked to apply for a voluntary post developing a web ministry for EUS.

Over the years, my direction changed and I was challenged to apply for a job teaching down in Montenegro, which seemed at the time the least likely career I would pursue. But I am still in Niksic teaching university students translation from Serbian to English. At the same time, I am very active in the local Christian fellowship, occasionally preaching, helping lead the youth group and generally trying to serve people as best I can.

I'm not expecting that many people to spend any time looking at this web site, apart from my close friends and supporters in the UK. If there is any demand, I am hoping to add a few pages which you can contribute to, for example:

  • Your ideas to improve the web site, design-wise and content-wise
  • Your pictures and reports of unusual things you have done, which might interest the general public
  • Lookalikes
  • Quizzes

Hopefully, you get the general idea. If you have ideas, then e-mail me at the usual address.
