The English department Additional hand-outs My background

I am teaching at the University of Montenegro's Faculty of Philosophy in the town of Niksic. I am teaching second and fourth year students "Modern English" in the department of English, in particular translation from Serbian/Montenegrin to English and Conversation. In this section you can find all the texts I have used so far this term. If readers would like to use this as a teaching or learning resource, you may, as long as you credit the original author or source, and a link to this site, if you possess your own web site, would be appreciated. The English translations are not available for lessons that haven't been completed this year. NOTE: click on the word "pdf" for a printable version, or on the title for the version that includes the translation.

*@$%*#}?£¬ WORK, ETC. 6374750935 BACKGROUND

After graduating from Nottingham University with a Masters in Civil Engineering, I gave up Engineering to pursue a career in Computer Programming. Despite being trained only in antiquated languages like COBOL and Quick BASIC, I taught myself for fun various web programming languages (like JavaScript, PHP, JSP and VBScript) and markup languages (like HTML, XML) and the associated stylesheet and tranformation languages (CSS, XSLT).

In addition to working with computers, I took evening classes in Russian language for three years. I managed a pass in the Institute of Linguists professional language exams for Russian language which were possibly the most difficult exams I have ever taken. I was forthwith inducted as an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (A.C.I.L.).

After four years of less-than-challenging work on sales systems, I decided to take the plunge and do voluntary work in another country using skills not yet tested in a business environment. Having made the step to come to Serbia, I did web- and graphic-design and many other administrative duties for a Christian NGO in Belgrade for two years.

After deciding to move away from the capital, I somehow managed to land a job as an English teacher at the University of Montenegro, based in Niksic at the Faculty of Philosophy, teaching Serbian-English translation, which I have been doing since Feb 2005, and conversation lessons for the teaching specialisation year. I gained TEFL certification (CELTA) at the International House in Budapest in August 2007.
